Pixel-perfect drawing on a grid

This pixel art editor opens a small 32×32 transparent canvas, zooms it to fill the window and turns on gridlines so you can see every pixel. The pencil draws single hard-edged pixels without anti-aliasing, which is exactly what sprites, icons, emoji and retro game graphics need. Increase the pencil size to paint 2×2 or 3×3 blocks, use the fill bucket to flood an area with a color, and switch to the eraser to clear pixels back to transparency. Right-click with any tool to use your second color, which makes switching between an outline color and a fill color effortless.

Zoom in and out with Ctrl and the mouse wheel, pinch on a touch screen, or use the zoom slider in the status bar; the image is always rendered with nearest-neighbour scaling so pixels never blur. Hold Space and drag to pan around larger canvases. Gridlines can be toggled with Ctrl+G, and the status bar shows the exact coordinates of the pixel under your cursor.

Sizes, palettes and layers

Use File → New to start a different size: 16×16 for favicons and tiny icons, 24×24 or 32×32 for characters and items, 64×64 or larger for detailed scenes and tiles. Choose colors from the built-in palette, sample existing colors with the picker, or create your own with Edit colors; the last ten custom colors are remembered on your device. Layers let you separate outlines, base colors, shading and highlights so you can adjust each one without touching the others.

Export without blur

Save as PNG to get the exact pixel size with transparency intact. When you need a bigger version for a website, a store listing or social media, use “Save as PNG, scaled up” and choose a whole-number factor: every pixel becomes a crisp square block. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your artwork is never uploaded and there are no accounts, watermarks or limits.

How to use

  1. Set the canvas sizeStart with the 32×32 canvas or open File → New to pick another size such as 16×16 or 64×64 with a transparent background.
  2. Draw pixel by pixelThe pencil places single, hard-edged pixels. Use the fill bucket for areas, the color picker to reuse colors and the eraser to clear pixels.
  3. Export sharp PNGsSave as PNG at the original size, or use “Save as PNG, scaled up” to export at 8× or more without any blurring.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my pixels not blurry?
The pencil draws with Bresenham lines and whole pixels only, and the canvas is displayed with smoothing disabled when zoomed in, so every pixel stays perfectly square.
How do I keep a transparent background?
The pixel art canvas starts transparent (shown as a checkerboard). Save as PNG to keep the transparency. JPEG and BMP do not support transparency and are flattened on white.
Can I make sprites larger for sharing?
Yes. Use File → Save as PNG, scaled up and enter a factor such as 8. Each pixel becomes an 8×8 block with no smoothing, which is ideal for social media and game engines.
Can I draw on several layers?
Yes. Add layers for outlines, colors and shading, then hide or merge them as needed. Save a project file to keep the layers for later.
